With all the events that come with having multiple sports complexes in the rural area of Glendale, Arizona and now a casino, Valley Metro has made a push to take the light rail project a step further and branch it out to these growing areas. Growth does not come without pain. Members of the community partnered up with Valley Metro to figure out a route that would make most sense economically while minimizing a negative impact to surrounding businesses and communities. The funding of this project would come from federal government subsidies and local state and city sales taxes at an estimated cost of $80-100 million per mile. Do we really need to have a Light Rail going through the historical part of Glendale to reach these areas of high demand? Or should they build it to reach old downtown Glendale then divert it to its destination? It will be interesting to see if Glendale City Council will approve such an expensive project.
